Hannah|Golden Hour Senior Photos

A location that took a little extra effort to reach, a very hot day, and someone who was ready to have fun—Hannah’s session had all the makings of an adventure.

When Emma talked about photographing Hannah, she kept coming back to how much she enjoyed their time together. Hannah was willing to make the trek to their photo spot, try different poses, and experiment with the props they had brought along. Even with the heat, she brought an easygoing energy to the session.

As Emma put it, “It was just a fun, little adventure that we had, plus a photo shoot.”

The experience becomes part of what you remember when you look back at your photos. For Hannah and Emma, that included making their way to the location and having fun with the ideas they tried once they got there.

Golden hour, the time shortly after sunrise or before sunset, offers a beautiful setting for outdoor portraits. With the sun lower in the sky, the light can feel softer and warmer than it does at midday. Depending on where you stand and how your photographer positions you, it can create a gentle glow around your hair or warm light across your face.

Because that light changes quickly, a little planning helps. If your location involves a walk, allow time to get there and settle in before photography begins. Comfortable shoes for the route can make the trip easier, and on warm days, water and breaks deserve a place in the plan. Talk with your photographer about the terrain and any comfort or accessibility needs before choosing your spot.

Hannah’s session also offers a little encouragement for anyone wondering what to do in front of the camera: you don’t need to arrive with every pose figured out.

Being open to a few ideas gives your photographer room to explore with you. A small change in where you look, how you stand, or what you do with your hands can give a portrait a different feeling. Props offer another way to interact with the scene, especially when they feel natural to you. You can try something, see how it feels, and speak up when you’d prefer another approach.

For Emma, Hannah’s willingness to join in made this session especially fun. The walk, the heat, the poses, and the props all became part of their shared experience.

Beautiful light gives a session its setting. Bringing your personality—and a little room for adventure—helps make it yours.
