Kami | Senior Photographer Bolivar MO

Meet Kami, a senior at Bolivar High School and such a joy to have in the studio. She came in as a friend of our newest team member Emma, and what started as a portfolio-building session turned into one of those shoots where everything just clicks. I'm obsessed.

Kami's Senior Session at Jordan Brittley Studio in Bolivar, MO

Kami is a tennis player and she brought that energy with her. The yellow pleated skirt she wore against the pink backdrop was exactly the kind of color combination that makes you stop mid-edit. White top, Adidas, stacked bracelets: the whole outfit worked. If you are still figuring out what to wear for your session, the senior picture outfit ideas post is worth a look, and the accessories post covers exactly the kind of stacked bracelet situation Kami had going on.

Emma just joined our team in March and this is her first official photoshoot.

She worked out her settings, the lighting and even brought her own ideas to the session. Which is a dream to me!

One of the first ideas she mentioned was using this golden light to add a little bit of a dreamy vibe (scroll down to the white photos to see this in action) and then she added a flower and it created a really great mood to the tennis vibe. Tennis is such a cool sport: elegant and also powerful in action.

As a studio owner, there is something really happy about watching your team grow into their own and seeing a new photographer find their footing with a client who makes it fun.

When the Session Takes on a Life of Its Own

Was the pink backdrop always the plan? I think not. That's just in-the-moment creativity coming into play. Clean, bright, a little retro, a lot of fun. Her white top, Adidas, and stacked bracelets rounded everything.

Now here's where it got interesting. Makenzie happened to have a pickleball set in her car that day. Pickleball is huge in Bolivar right now (they opened new courts at Cribbs Family Youth Park in 2023) and Makenzie's paddles were an orange-to-pink ombre gradient with a tropical floral logo on them.

They matched the entire setup so well it looked intentional. It was not intentional. That is just what happens when people bring their creativity and collaborate together on a session.

Some of the best things we see in a session aren’t planned.

The overhead shot with Kami lying on the pink floor, paddles on either side of her face, is one of our favorites from the whole session. It's creative, it's playful, and it's exactly the kind of frame that comes from a team that's having fun and not overthinking it.

And then there's the drink shot. Kami held one of the paddles like a tray while someone poured sparkling water into a pink coupe glass balanced right on top of it, mid-pour, with that long stream of water catching the light. It is one of the most creative detail shots we have done in the studio and it came together in about five minutes because the whole team was already in that headspace. That frame is something special.

Kami, thank you for being such a great sport and bringing all of that with you. Emma, this is a great start.
