“I just need to lose a little bit of weight first.” I hear some version of the same thing from time to time and I actually get it. Our bodies change and we have this ideal in our heads and we’d like to show up as that version when we get the photos taken. But if we keep waiting for ideals, we miss out on right now.
This is something I’m working on in my own life too even with iphone photos. I want my kids to have photos that show the real memories we made together even though my body has changed throughout the years.
So this is for us because we don’t want to wait until we “look right” to have professional photos taken.
The Goal That Keeps Moving
Here is what happens. You set the goal. You hit it. Now there is a different goal. You lose the weight and then it is the hair. You fix the hair and then it is the clothes. The finish line moves every time you get close to it. That is not a motivation problem. That is just how the brain works when it has decided it is not ready yet.
Meanwhile your kids are a year older than they were last time you thought about booking.
Truly this goes deeper than just photos. If you only take away one things from this it is that your worth is not tied to how you perceive yourself.
