Princess & Haze Valentine Mini

Princess and Haze had such a fun time in the studio snuggling, laughing, tickling and making memories.

Makenzie hosted this session for them and I love the joy and laughter that she brought out of their sweet mother-son relationship.

Mother-son sessions have a very specific energy that's hard to put into words. There's this mix of silliness and tenderness that just shows up on its own when you put a mom and her boy in a room together and let them be themselves. Makenzie has a real gift for getting out of the way of that and just letting it happen — and these photos are a beautiful example of it.

The snuggling, the tickling, the laughing — none of that was directed. That's just what Haze and Princess brought through the door. A good photographer reads that energy early and builds the whole session around it instead of trying to replace it with poses. That's exactly what Makenzie did here and the gallery reflects it.

What you end up with is a set of photos that actually look like their relationship. Not a polished version of it, the real one. Those are the photos that get printed and hung up and looked at for years.

Valentine minis are a wonderful excuse to capture a relationship that often goes undocumented. Moms are usually behind the camera, not in front of it. Sessions like this are a good reminder to change that.

It doesn't have to be Valentine's Day either. A mom and son session any time of year captures something that's always worth having. Kids grow fast and the dynamic between a mother and her child at any given age is its own thing that won't look quite the same a year from now.
