Weightlifting BFF Senior Session for Guys Bolivar MO | Logan and Sam
Emma here! I may be a little biased because one of these guys is my boyfriend, but I think this session turned out really well. Sam and his best friend Logan are both Bolivar High School seniors, and when I asked if they wanted to do their session together at the gym, they were on board.
The weightlifting setup was at their gym here in Bolivar. One of them was on the cable machine doing pull-ups, they loaded a barbell, grabbed a kettlebell off the floor. We worked the whole space. If you have been thinking about doing a weightlifting senior session and wondering what it actually looks like, scroll through these and you will get the idea pretty fast.
The Weightroom Location
The gym gave us a lot to work with. The rack lines, the dumbbell wall, the TRX straps hanging in the background, the overhead fluorescent lighting that would normally be the enemy of a portrait but actually worked in black and white. Most of those frames ended up in black and white specifically because the gym environment reads gritty and focused in mono in a way that color does not quite capture. Logan's "GRIT" tank mid-pull-up is one of my favorite images from the whole session.
Bolivar High School
After the gym, we moved to Bolivar High School for the casual half of the session. White t-shirts, jeans, Converse. Simple on purpose. The BHS sign is such a recognizable piece of Bolivar that getting both of them in front of it felt like the right call. Arms crossed, looking like they own the place, because honestly they kind of do right now. Senior year at the end of high school with your best friend is a cool way to spend a photoshoot.
Logan goofing off in front of the sign while I was trying to get a serious frame is very much how the whole casual portion went. Sam sitting cross-legged in the grass looking completely relaxed. The both of them on the front steps doing absolutely nothing I told them to do and somehow it worked. That is how BFF sessions go when the two people who actually hang out feel comfortable in front of the camera.
For guys thinking about doing their senior session with a friend, this is a good example of how it plays out. You get the individual portraits, you get the duo frames, and the session has more energy than a solo shoot because there is someone to react off of. The BFF senior session format exists for exactly this reason.
Guys can absolutely do it, and this session is proof.
Logan and Sam are Bolivar Liberators and they are about to wrap up senior year. Congratulations to both of them. It was a good session and I had a great time shooting it, even if I am not totally objective about one of the subjects.
