What Snacks to Pack for Your Senior Session | Bolivar Senior Photographer

Somewhere in the middle of your senior session, you are going to get hungry. Or your energy is going to crash. Or your lips are going to be so dry you cannot stop thinking about it. A good snack bag fixes all of this. It sounds like a small thing, and it is, but how you feel on session day shows up in your photos. Here is what to pack.

While you are prepping and choosing your senior picture outfits and accessories, it’s easy to forget how you are going to fuel yourself and this fun session!

The Energy Stuff

Granola bars, trail mix, a banana, some almonds: anything that gives you a slow, steady burn rather than a spike and crash. You want to feel good and focused for a couple of hours, not wired for twenty minutes and then completely useless. Avoid anything with a ton of sugar right before you are supposed to look relaxed and natural on camera. The pre-session Frappuccino is tempting. We are saying.

The Hydration Situation

Bring water. More water than you think you need. Hydrated skin photographs better, you will feel better, and it keeps your energy up in a way nothing else really does. If you are shooting outside in the Missouri heat, and if you are in the 417 you know exactly what kind of heat we are talking about, this is non-negotiable. Bring a big water bottle and actually drink it.

One specific tip: use a straw if you are bringing anything that will mess up your lip color. Rookie mistake, easily avoided.

The Little Comfort Things

A small snack that feels like a treat. Something you actually like, not something that is good for you. Gummy bears, a bag of chips, a little piece of chocolate: whatever your thing is. Session days should be fun, and fun days have snacks you are excited about. This also doubles as a prop in a pinch.

The Stuff You Forgot

Gum or mints, because you are going to be close to people and that is good manners and also confidence. A small pack of tissues. A lip balm, because studio lights and outdoor Missouri air will both dry you out fast, and dry lips show up in photos more than you would think. If you wear contacts, bring drops. If you have a tendency to get headaches, bring whatever you take for that.

The Snack Bag Mindset

Here is the real reason this matters: nourished, comfortable, hydrated, and a little bit pampered reads completely differently in photos than hungry, tired, and running on fumes. You have put thought into your outfits and your location and your vibe. Put five minutes of thought into your snack bag too.

You deserve to feel good for this. Bring the snacks.
