Ellie Portrait Session in the 417
When it comes to a portrait session, it's all about bringing out your personality. Ellie did a fantastic job showing off her fun, funny, confident personality with these photos.
We had such a fun time making each other laugh (well, mostly Ellie making us both laugh) and talking about college life and running. I was able to capture her genuine smile and laugh this whole session, and it was so fun to watch her do her thing and come up with all these different poses throughout the shoot.
That's honestly one of my favorite things to witness in a session. When someone stops waiting to be directed and just starts moving, experimenting, trying things. Ellie hit that point early and once she did the whole gallery shifted. You can feel the difference between someone performing for a camera and someone just being themselves in front of one. Ellie was firmly in the second category and it made my job genuinely fun.
We also used some props later on in the shoot to give it more variety and to accent some of her features. Like these flowers! Props are something I love working into sessions because they give you something to interact with, and interaction creates movement, and movement creates the kinds of frames that don't look like portraits at all — they look like moments.
I loved doing this portrait session with Ellie and I loved how the photos turned out. One of the most important things with these kinds of sessions is that you have fun, and that's exactly what this session was.

Portrait sessions like this one are a good reminder that the best photos come from genuine connection, a little bit of silliness, and someone behind the camera paying attention to the right moments. Ellie and I had all three going from the very first frame.
What I want people to take away from seeing this gallery is that a portrait session doesn't have to feel intimidating. You don't have to know how to pose. You don't have to look a certain way or have a specific vision going in. You just have to show up and be willing to have a good time. The rest takes care of itself when the environment is right.
